A Life Coach Living Life

Life & Community, Life Coaching, Lifestyle
by Cynthia Johnson When faced with the challenge from our editor of selecting an article from the ones I’ve written over the past four years, I first thought about the articles about the life lessons I’ve gained from my 8-year- old grandson, a real “tell it like I feel it” or “tell it the way I feel life should be” kind of kid. His lessons include “your socks don’t have to match,” or “so what if my socks are dirty on the bottom, with my shoes on you only see the top and they look clean.” I was tempted to say those were my favorite articles, but as I read through other articles, I realized that most of them had similar threads woven throughout, all of them pointing to living…

Pressed for Time?

Life & Community, Life Coaching
By Cynthia Johnson One morning, while on vacation, I was walking and enjoying being outdoors, when suddenly a question popped into my mind: was man created for time or was time created for man... what was the original or true relationship between man and time? It developed into an interesting conversation in my mind that demanded more study and more meditation. After I returned home, I didn’t give it any more thought. But it did cause my perception of time to shift and change, and I gained a new respect for time as something to be embraced. Recently, the questions and thoughts came back stronger. Suppose, just suppose, that time was given to man for his benefit, not as his opponent, servant, or master. By befriending time, working within what’s…

The Monthly JOW: “A Beautiful Mind”

Life & Community, Life Coaching
The Monthly JOW: “A Beautiful Mind” Sajjiah Parker A beautiful life begins with a beautiful mind.” (Author unknown) “Beautiful” and “mind”—the marriage of these two words captivates and intrigues me, and has caused me to ponder what it means to have a “beautiful mind.” Think of the two words independently: to be "beautiful," by definition, not only applies to something being aesthetically attractive to the senses, but also may mean of a certain quality and standard of excellence. And “the mind” is such a complex and mystifying concept that delves into our state of thinking, being, and doing, of our conscious and subconscious mind, and our profound intellectual capabilities! So when bringing the two into unison, what makes for a succinct and thorough summation of what it means for one…

Dealing with Anger after the Family Fails

Life & Community, Life Coaching
By Michelle Moon Whenever a family disintegrates, there’s going to be anger. Perhaps anger at the ex for not being what you needed, anger at yourself for failing to make the ex happy, anger at the universe for heaping too much on you. Anger can linger and grow, seeming to take on a life of its own—anger that your ex found love again, that she seems to be fine, that he’s living an easier life than you. Adding the stress of parenting through a major life change to an already tumultuous emotional state can be overwhelming. Perpetuating the anger through bitterness, pettiness, “getting back at” him/her, etc., damages your kids. How? They’re living with your anger. Whether you’re taking it out on them (directly or indirectly), holding the anger in or even only angry when dealing with the ex,…

Monthly JOW: Pure Faith, Pure and Simple

Life & Community, Life Coaching, Uncategorized
By Sajjiah Parker The monthly JOW—Jewel of Wisdom—began as an outlet, a catharsis, of my innermost thoughts, reflections, epiphanies, and eureka moments, per my present/past life experience. My intention was, and remains, to share this inner dialogue and these profound moments of personal revelation and enlightenment with others, who perhaps by my transparency and testimony could be inspired and, in some way—any way—even possibly be transformed. In like fashion, then, I am compelled to share with you the most profound revelation I have experienced to date. It has been so life changing that at every possible opportunity with which I am presented, I give it to whomever is within my audience. Okay… so let’s talk about faith. Faith is a word/concept that is generally understood by most; whether you consider…

Momentum: Getting the Most Out of 2015

Life & Community, Life Coaching
Don’t lose focus this year. Stay in tune and on time and amazing things will happen; things are shifting and happening at a fast pace. It seems like just a couple of weeks ago that the hustle and bustle of the holiday season was in full swing: decorating, dodging other last minute shoppers at crowded shopping malls, wracking our brains trying to figure out what to buy who, wrapping presents, reconnecting with friends, family, and enemies alike. Now, all of a sudden, here we are with one-third of the year behind us!  Time is a friend, not an enemy, and it challenges us to move; we have to keep in step with it, but how?  What do time and phrases like “circle of life” and “wheel of habit” have in…
